Week 13 - Post 3

A concept that interested me from chapter 8 was interviews. Everything about interviews are extremely important. Interviews are all about first impressions of the interviewer as well as the interviewee. The questions that are asked, the answers that are provided, the way you dress, they way you speak, your preparation, and even prior and succeeding communication can all influence an interview. Although I have yet to experience an interview for a large company or career, I have been through many interviews for various jobs and positions. Most interview questions have been similar, if not the same, throughout every interview. The questions are typically about outstanding qualities that would apply in that specific job or position and how I would be asset to the job/team. School and extra-curricular activities are usually brought up as well as why I want that specific job and why I should be hired. Interviewers need to be able to trust you, so the answers that you give them need to show that you are a perfect fit for anything.

  1. I found the section on interview interesting as well, actually I have found that I find any discussion or mention interviews and interviewing interesting. This is because I am nearing graduation and I’ll be entering the job market soon so I’ll be doing a lot of interviewing in my near future. Haha.
My interviewing experience is quite similar to yours, and I completely agree that most jobs seems to ask the same or similar questions no matter what position you are applying to. In my experience potential employers usually ask what you can bring to the company and what your greatest characteristic or attribute is. Some even ask more easy going questions like what my favorite so and so is or what I like to do in my spare time. I believe that the second set of questions are to help the employer get to know you on a somewhat more personally level.
Anyway its important to always present yourself in a professional way during your interviews. One section that I found in chapter 8 that can help with this interview presentation is the section on etiquette for the information age. Good post!

  2. Yeah I agree interviews are going to be very important for all of us this section was helpful because it could be applied to jobs, or schools. There are so many parts that go into creating a great interview. Clothing is the first thing an interviewer will see so this gets you in the door. Then there is personality and questions that you want to be comfortable with this means practicing answers and being prepared. There is also the follow up which usually involves a letter or phone call. Actually now that I think about it your resume and cover letter are the first things your potential employer looks at. I think I am going to use our schools resources and improve my resume!

  3. I agree that this was a helpful section. You only get to make one first impression, and it's really important that it's a good one. I don't know how applicable this is to all jobs, but I know that it's helped me in the past if I am able to just connect with the interviewer. Obviously It's important to have skills they are looking for, but I think in a lot of cases the skills aren't exactly relevant because often times skills can be learned at the job
