Week 2 - Post 3

As I was reading, Cicero’s canons of rhetoric struck an in interest in me. Firstly because my aunt’s major in college was rhetoric (back in the day :-)), and secondly, because I love organized procedures such as this since they make everything way easier to understand. The two cannons that I agreed with and liked the most were memory and delivery. Memory is very important in speaking, because it shows that you thoroughly know and understand your topic. Memorization of a topic, though, requires interest, and once you are interested enough and have all the information you need, delivery is a piece of cake. It comes naturally and your audience is more apt to understand and appreciate what you are saying. I don’t think that a speaker should fully memorize every single words of a speech because it can result in choppy sentences, which makes the delivery undesirable to listen to. If you just memorize the key points, it will sound great.
